Crypto Miner car
The Crypto Miner Car speculates on the changing nature of the data economy in light of the ecological and social crisis. The artwork is a blockchain-based installation presenting a prototype for wealth redistribution that confronts today’s technological and environmental challenges with disruptive thoughts on an alternative vision of energy use. Central to the work is a crypto mining platform with GPU units hacked to recover waste heat and power a car while mining crypto coins. The car, once status symbol of modernity, acts here as a visionary trigger probing possible visions of the future between reality and fiction. Ideas about modernity are shattered and technological challenges are approached in a playful and provocative manner. Visions of sustainable energy production and self-driving vehicles are brought together in a disruptive scenario.
Duo LarbitsSisters (Laure-Anne Jacobs & Bénédicte Jacobs) (BE)
Since 2010 social media researcher Bénédicte Jacobs (BE) and media artist Laure-Anne Jacobs (BE) form the artist duo LarbitsSisters. The work of the Brussels-based duo is situated at the crossroads of art, technology, political, and societal issues and grew out of a shared fascination on new media, merging research and artistic practice onto projects in which concepts such as traceability, network analysis, algorithms, automation, data processing, privacy are explored. LarbitsSisters’ work focuses on the creative drives and patterns in digital media. Central is the friction between public and private, online and offline, between the unbridled faith in technological progress and everyday life. Their work has been presented in several national and international exhibitions and symposia. Comprising social media researcher Bénédicte Jacobs and media artist Laure-Anne Jacobs, LarbitsSisters has won the NOVA New Media Interactive Art Prize and the Prix Ars Electronica Golden Nica.
